How do you make the entire rail network safer? How do you minimise risks along thousands of miles of track? And how do you do it efficiently and cost-effectively?

Part of the answer lies in Tom’s hands. He’s been working as part of an expert team to deliver to deadline a complex data capture and reporting system for Network Rail.

"I get to work on projects that make a difference to people’s lives — and that means a lot to me.”

The team has designed a mobile app that helps Network Rail’s 14,000-strong workforce communicate to manage safety, reduce risk, and create track inspection and maintenance efficiencies. This should lead to 1.3 billion safer rail journeys every year, and £10 million saved over the next five years.
