Shaping Scotland’s fintech future
Fuelled by the desire to create innovative technology for the financial market, Roddy Blain joined EY Edinburgh in 2017 – and he’s now working with industry leaders to transform the world of fintech.
After starting his career in the industry with other Big Four consulting businesses, Roddy Blain joined EY in 2017 because he wanted the opportunity to build truly impressive and innovative fintech solutions.
Today he’s a Director in IT Advisory within the Technology Strategy and Innovation team based at EY Edinburgh – in a workspace that’s designed for the future.
“EY Edinburgh is one of the most technologically advanced offices in the UK,” says Roddy. “It has great connectivity, impressive touch screen displays, instant messaging and video conferencing capabilities throughout.”
“This makes it extremely intuitive for experts in tech to engage with EY both professionally and socially.”
A diverse, collaborative team that’s committed to innovating and growing
According to Roddy, what sets EY apart is their genuine desire to innovate and grow – and this fosters a collaborative, community spirit.
“Your ideas and opinions are listened to, regardless of your level of seniority,” says Roddy. “You really feel like you’re part of a team where you can use your collective skills and experiences to make a difference.”
Roddy is also pleasantly surprised and impressed by EY’s commitment to growing the Edinburgh office. “We’re not just a resource centre,” says Roddy adamantly. “We’re paving the way when it comes to innovative fintech solutions and transforming the industry.”
Working on the future, today
Through EY’s innovation centre, Wavespace, Roddy and his team are working with a wide range of industry leaders and brilliant thinkers to build the next generation of fintech solutions.
“We use cloud technologies, the full MS suite, including PowerApps, and we have many strategic partnerships with IBM and Pega,” Roddy explains. “We’re also looking for smart people at all levels to help us improve the range of skills we can offer – so we can be sure we’re always one step ahead.”
For Roddy, every day at EY Edinburgh brings new challenges that inspire and excite him. “I’m energised by the fact that I get to solve client problems with such an enthusiastic and diverse team,” he says. “And it’s great being able to work with the latest technologies.”
