From working flexibly to working internationally, Senior Manager Jane White tells us what she enjoys about Transaction Support.

I joined Transactions Support as a graduate following EY’s Summer Internship programme. Initially I wasn’t convinced about joining a Big Four firm like EY, but was won over by the opportunity to develop a range of transferable skills, the openness and accessibility of EY people, and the time they invested in me.

I felt motivated by the fast-paced and intense nature of the Transactions Support, with each project different to the last and providing me with a continual learning curve.

This still stands as my career has developed and I’ve progressed to Senior Manager. I continue to learn from EY sector and technical experts, and the variety of deals and clients I work on every day.

The reality of working in Transaction Support can sometimes mean long nights and weekend working, however the leadership acknowledge this and, as a result, actively encourage us to work flexibly in managing our commitments – even during busy periods.

We’re trusted as teams to manage our own work, communicate effectively and make use of technology to work remotely or flexibly. I’ve personally benefited from this approach enormously; it’s enabled me to work remotely in places such as France and Italy, in order maintain a balance in my personal life.

I love how interconnected I am with international offices, and the learning opportunity this affords. In fact, it’s this global nature of EY which keeps me motivated to be here. I’ve had some fantastic experiences working on projects in multiple EY locations across EMEIA. My secondment to Moscow in 2012 was a career highlight for me. Immersing myself in a completely different transactions environment, challenging myself both personally and professionally; it was an experience I’ll never forget.

As I’ve moved through to Senior Manager, I’ve taken on more responsibility and leadership to keep challenging myself and make lasting change, from organising EY’s national internal International Women’s Day awards to leading on the career development framework for all people in Transactions.

I’ve also been involved in an initiative to promote active inclusion so that everyone in the team can feel respected and valued, gaining access to the right information and people to help them succeed. It’s very much a team effort and we’ve had tremendous support from EY’s leadership, which is another great thing about being at EY.
