I joined EY Resourcing in 2012 after previously working in financial recruitment, externally. I was ready for a change but wanted to stay in a role that was both people- and solutions-focused. Having worked in the sector I was aware of EY’s excellent reputation in the market and was excited for the opportunity to be part of it.

My role is about working with internal stakeholder in order to best utilise staff across our various clients. This involves looking at individuals’ experience and development, building our client relationships and delivering a successful commercial result. Resourcing affects the running of the business from both a people and finance perspective so it’s fundamental to understand the balance of the teams and build credible relationships with stakeholders – both locally and across borders.

It is the strength of these relationships and how you conduct yourself that allows you to influence resourcing decisions, and have the stakeholders trust your judgements and solutions. For me, there is nothing like the rush of solving a tricky staffing issue where you have had to influence multiple teams to reach the desired outcome.

Since joining EY I have been fortunate enough to have amazing support both locally and from the wider team which have helped me develop both personally and professionally. As well as formal promotions I have had the opportunity to push myself outside my comfort zone and explore opportunities not part of the day to day role. I was proud to be selected as a participant for EY Edge, the firm’s accelerated learning programme for high performers, which has allowed me to step away from the day routine and take the time to evaluate ‘how’ I do things.  We are actively encouraged to looks at ways of making tangible changes/improvements to the way we work both with the Resourcing team and our wider technical teams.

In Resourcing no day is the same and it’s a fast-paced environment, but at the heart of it all is a strong people culture. There is an emphasis on work-life balance and we are actively encouraged to use flexible working to achieve both personal and professional goals.

Ultimately, it’s a challenging role but a very rewarding one!
